There are 3 layers being used to generate a mind-model for the methodology of the healing cards: The illness, which we call medical illness, or MI; the disease, which we call medical disease, or MD; and the energetic cause, which we call energetic disease, or ED.

Illness or medical illness (MI) refers to feelings of discomfort, pain, malaise, etc. which may be identified as symptoms of a medical disease (MD). It is important to note that the same illness symptoms could be attributed to a number of possible medical diseases. Furthermore, the true cause of an illness and its related medical disease is energetic in nature. We call this the energetic cause, or energetic disease (ED).

From MI to MD to ED, each layer includes and builds upon the previous one: the illness (MI) is a tiny point of awareness, including only the conscious sensations or experiences of some underlying issue; we might link these sensations to a specific pathological cause (MD). However, this is still a very limited perspective and often a poor descriptor of the energetic causes behind that specific illness - which are necessary to identify, in order to properly treat the problem. As an illustrator of this, two medical diseases which have very similar names can have completely different sets of required healing cards: this is because the cards are sorted by energetic cause/disease, not by medical disease.

Some notes:

• Multiple different illnesses can be caused by the same disease.
• The same illness can be caused by different diseases.
• The same illness can have wildly different energetic causes from case to case, or from one individual to another.
• Diseases with very similar names can have very different energetic causes, and therefore very different sets of healing cards to use. For example, Uterine fibroid and Uterine fibroid (submucous).
